One year old Joelle Lo Rene has severe mitral regurgitation in the heart – a leakage in one of the valve – which needs to be repaired to improve her cardiac function. The toddler has undergone two operations after she was born and now in need of an emergency operation after her condition worsened last month.
Joelle has been in the intensive care unit since June 13, so that the doctors can monitor her condition closely. She is warded in the Gleneagles Hospital in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The family, with monthly income of only RM5,000, is having difficulty keeping up with the rising medical costs. The father takes turns with his self-employed wife, travelling from Shah Alam to the hospital in Ampang every day to be with Joelle. They are seeking to raise RM70,000 for this upcoming operation.
