This is Muhamad Zai Quratul Risky bin Abdullah. He is a 5-year-old Indonesian boy who had recently been diagnosed with Diabetes Melitus Type 1. Type 1 diabetes, once known as juvenile diabetes or insulin-dependent diabetes, is a chronic condition in which the pancreas produces little or no insulin.

He was sent to Hospital Selayang on 25 November 2019 with a history of lethargy for 4 days starting 22 November 2019. His mother also noticed Risky had polydipsia and polyuria 3 days prior, epigastric pain for 2 days and reduction in overall oral intake. Risky was diagnosed, admitted for 2 days and administered with insulin infusion for 24 hours.

With this chronic condition, Risky requires blood sugar checks 4 times a day and subcutaneous insulin injections throughout his life.
Risky is the eldest of 5 in his family. His Indonesian mother and father are both self-employed tailors and their monthly household income is about RM2,000-2,500, making it extremely difficult for them to find the means to continue this life-long treatment.
