Salim is a 13-year-old teenage boy, who is an active and registered student at Yayasan Chow Kit's KL Krash Pad centre.
As with most of our students at YCK, Salim comes from a very poor background. He is currently taken care of by his 80-year-old grandmother, who understandably finds it difficult to work at her age.
To support themselves, his grandmother works occasionally as a dishwasher, but only when she is in good health. To help support both of them, 13-year-old Salim has taken it upon himself to do part-time work assisting a local corn seller.
His current daily routine includes him buying food for his grandmother, which typically involves porridge. Salim's kindness and empathy are shown when he makes it a point to cut and prepare solid food items into smaller pieces to make it easy to eat for his grandmother (who does not have many teeth left to chew on).
Despite his difficult life circumstances, Salim has shown great resilience and optimism in his efforts to better himself and the life of his grandmother. It had not deterred him for pursuing knowledge, as evident in his determination when undergoing alternative education here at KL Krash Pad. He very sincerely cares for his grandmother and takes great effort to ensure she is comfortable at her golden age.
Here at Yayasan Chow Kit, we recognize the great potential and resilience that Salim has shown, and therefore would like to assist him and his grandmother.
We are currently fundraising a total of RM 9000 to help cover their living expenses for a year, as they are currently facing difficulties making wages and paying rent.

Salim is a registered beneficiary/student at Yayasan Chow Kit's KL Krash Pad. One of our Social Worker has verified the case above and has been assigned to follow up with Salim moving forward in the future for the transfer of funds as well, for transparency purposes.
