Many are struggling. Malaysia’s poverty rate spiked to 8.4% in 2020 from 5.6% in 2019 due to the COVID-19 crisis. The pandemic and prolonged lockdown have caused disruptions to people’s income, leading to many more households being exposed to poverty, especially for those in the B40 and most vulnerable categories.
As the impact of this cruel pandemic is felt more deeply across society, we recognise there is an immense challenge ahead as the demand for food remains as high as crisis levels and unfortunately we anticipate it will remain high over the next coming months. But we have each other.
