Bali Kids are kick starting a new Anti-Smoking Education Program for children in Bali. The funds will cover the production, design and printing of a small booklet for kids, on the evils of smoking. Currently the children do not receive any education on smoking and it is a major killer in Indonesia. Unlike so many other countries, Indonesia still has companies sponsoring sporting events and events linked to youth, which endorses this terrible habit.No one else in Bali is looking to tackle this locally. The goal is to educate around 5,000 children of the dangers of smoking and keep them healthy in the first year.
My Story
Bali Kids operates a small orphanage of currently 16 children, and also provide health and dental care and education to underprivileged children, including a mobile clinic which travels around the villages to carry out health checks, and financing critical surgery (www.balikids.org)
Having grown up with a lovable, but chain smoking Dad, and consequently, hating smoking as a result, this is an important and often overlooked message about teaching kids the importance of keeping away from the bad stuff, and keeping healthy (and financially more in control as they won't be spending any money they do have on cigarettes). So...it's a win win!
