Walaa is a Palestinian mother of four, trying to escape the devastating genocide in Gaza. She was a refugee based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, living there for 10 years when she decided to visit her family in Gaza. Unfortunately during her visit, the events of 7th October happened.
In the ensuing chaos and violence orchestrated by the IDF, her family home was bombed and destroyed, and she was forced to flee to the Deir el-Balah camp. She and her family are currently staying in temporary shelters, that lack the safety and security needed to protect themselves from the IDF's relentless aggression. On top of that, she is also pregnant and is due in November. She will require immediate medical attention ASAP.
Together with Walaa is her aunt Nawal Suleiman Al-Deiri, who was displaced from Gaza from the northern region. The IDF destroyed her family home and they were forced to live in temporary shelters. Nawal, along with her mother, now live together with Walaa and her family. They do not have any income, and Nawal's mother is an elderly paralyzed person who cannot walk and requires a wheelchair to get around as she is currently 90 years old. Nawal also suffers from cartilage disease and has not been able to seek medical treatment. Due to the high costs, they are not able to buy any food, water or medical supplies.
Walaa made her living in Malaysia by cooking and selling Palestinian food to locals, while her husband worked odd jobs to make ends meet. She wishes to bring her family back to Malaysia where they can be safe from violence, gunfire and bombs.
As the IDF are not allowing Palestinians to leave Gaza, in order to escape, Walaa and her family will need to make their way to the Rafah border, and from there, continue on to Cairo, Egypt where they hope to board a flight to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (Latest news in Malaysia have shown that the first plane of Palestinian refugees have arrived safely in Malaysia. We are currently hoping to get Walaa and her family onto the next batch to Malaysia).
