PENANG NEEDS US!

The devastating floods over the weekend (4-5 Nov) has left the people in Penang in despair. The floods has already claimed 7 lives and over 5000 are being housed in evacuation centers. The loses are staggering and many will need help to get back on their feet.

You can donate or fundraise for NGOs that are working hard on the ground via SimplyGiving. The following NGOs are supporting the relief work in Penang:

Mercy Malaysia: Has started a "Malaysia Flood Relief Fund".   The MM team has been participating in meetings with Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat (JKM) at Seberang Prai since early morning on Sunday. MM has helped send some dry food supplies to Kampung Dock, a village located close to the sea, with many poor and elderly people. Many parts of Kg Dock are still submerged in flood waters, and temple helpers are helping send food supplies door to door as they have not had food all day. 

MM also distributed 500 Hygiene Kits to 4 evacuation centers in  Prai. The MM team is stationed in Seberang Prai Utama. More funding is required to continue the work in Penang & Kedah.

St Nicholas' Home: Based in Penang, the St Nicholas Home team is currently contributing cooked food for the flood victims and sourcing for cleaning tools and equipment for the clean-up. They will also be keen to help those in need get back on their feet. Your donations will enable them to reach out and provide much needed assistance to the victims after the disaster relief work is over. Much will still need to be done.
